I'm no stranger to divorce but family is everything to me Sally Field remained on friendly terms with her ex husbands (Picture: EPA) 'What can I tell you, I'm not good at relationships,' says the twice divorced louis vuitton bags cheap ebay Sally Field with a wry smile.

'I'd love to know what it's like to have a successful one but I never meet anyone, because I'm not very social.' Marriage may not be her thing Field's relationship with her Smokey And The Bandit co star Burt Reynolds also bit the dust but the actress knows how to have a good divorce. 'It's not easy,' she tells me over lunch at a Manhattan hotel. 'But I have been very lucky and have kept close friendships with my children's fathers. When they were growing up, we'd all go on vacations together and we were one great big extended family.' She must have drawn on her experiences for classic 1993 comedy Mrs Doubtfire, also starring Robin Williams. 'People all over the world identify with the pain and agony of divorce,' says Field, explaining the film's enduring appeal. 'It's about families being torn apart when their parents split up and how much that hurts children. Of course, at the same time, that film is really, really funny.' Now 66, Field is a gold standard Hollywood veteran. She has two Oscars (Norma Rae in 1979 and Places In The Heart, 1984) on the mantelpiece and there have louis vuitton bracelet siambrandname been Emmys for her roles in ER and Brothers Sisters. She counts Steven Spielberg as a 'good family friend' and reveals that intense and famously private actor Daniel Day Lewis is 'a hysterical rascal'. Recently, Field spent time with Spielberg and Day Lewis filming the multi award winning Lincoln, about the sainted 16th US president. She plays Abraham Lincoln's troubled wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. Despite her relationship with the director, Field says she had to fight for the role opposite the triple Oscar winner. Sally Field with Daniel Day Lewis in Lincoln (Picture: AP) Spielberg was concerned that Field was a decade older than Day Lewis, while Lincoln was older than the first lady. 'Steven didn't feel we belonged together,' says Field, who dealt with the death of her elderly mother during filming and was Oscar nominated for her performance. 'He is a spectacular man, father, husband and friend but that doesn't mean he would have given me the role if he'd felt I was not right. I told him: "You're wrong."' After an hour long improvisation with Day Lewis to prove her point, Field was driving home when her mobile phone rang. The director and lead actor called her together to offer her the Lincoln role. 'That phone call from Daniel and Steven was hugely important to me,' she says. 'It was like being picked to go into outer space.' Back on planet Earth, it's a sunny afternoon. Petite and buzzing with energy, Field seems decades younger than she actually is. Dressed in a purple Prada cashmere jumper and jeans, there are a few lines but her pixie like face and Bambi eyes make her look like the original manga girl. There are no tell tale signs of plastic surgery. 'No, no,' she says. 'I care that I look as good as I can but I don't want to look unnatural.' As far back as Field can remember, 'acting was the family business'. She was raised in Pasadena, California, and is the daughter of working class actress Margaret Field and army captain Richard Field. Her parents divorced when she was four and her mother remarried stuntman Jock Mahoney. Like most jobbing actors, both her mother and stepfather were in and out of work. 'You wait for months, don't get hired and wonder how you're going to pay the bills,' says Field. 'I came from a family of working class actors and it was a really hard life. There was terrible insecurity.' Her stepfather was a volatile man who had the capacity to be 'both cruel and kind'. When she was offered the lead in TV show The Flying Nun, aged 19, he bullied her into accepting it. 'He was not an inspiring man,' says Field. 'He said I probably wouldn't work again if I didn't take it. Everyone was taking acid, dropping out and protesting Vietnam. My generation was wearing miniskirts I was wearing a nun's habit, I was a walking sight gag. It was an insipid, stupid situation comedy.' Despite her subsequent success in both critically acclaimed and mainstream films (Field played Tom Hanks's mother in Forrest Gump and Aunt May in The Amazing Spider Man), that feeling has never left her. It's something she's discussed with Sir Michael Caine, a fellow working class star. 'Michael and I talked about how you grow up with parents who are struggling and you watch what it's like,' she says. 'You think you have some position in the industry, then you don't and you have to louis vuitton purses names sell the house and the cars and find some place smaller. That happened to my family and it does something to you inside.' Field remains passionate about acting. She returns in the Spider Man sequel next year but her focus is on her family. 'I spend a lot of time with my children and [four] grandchildren,' she says with pride. 'I've never been a workaholic. I certainly think I was a better parent to my youngest son, Sam, who's 18 years younger than my oldest son, Peter, who I had when I was 22. I say to him: "Gosh, I'm surprised you're doing so well and are such a happy, productive human being. You had a young mother."' In support of her son Sam (Greisman), who louis vuitton purses vintage is gay, Field gave a moving speech about gay rights when she received the Human Rights Campaign's Ally for Equality award. 'I did it for my son and for all the parents of gay children,' she says. 'Gay people should be allowed the same rights as everybody else. God knows marriage is hard whoever you're with and God bless you if you get married. I hope it works.' Would she try marriage again, I wonder? Third time lucky? 'Sure I would like to meet someone,' laughs Field.

'I love the idea of having the love of my life beside me holding my hand. But I don't have that right now, so I just have to know that I'm just fine as I am.'.
