Media Musings Blog Archive When a A virtual prize for anyone who guesses correctly the first thing I do when I wake up.
Oh well, it not brushing my teeth or taking a leak or even making my bed. But the most bizarre thing I do is to turn on my computer and start checking Facebook and Twitter to see if there are any new notifications or to catch up on my news feed. A One third proportion of women aged 18 34 who check Facebook when they first wake up even before going to the bathroom. That is not the only obsession in this coming age of social media craze. It is the source of news, it is the connector to the giant multi celled organism called planet Earth. Now I got to tell you that social media is massive. If Facebook were a country,it would be the third most populated in the world ahead of he United States. 1 in 6 marriages last yearoccurredbetween people who met through social media. That twice more than the number of people who met at bats, clubs, and other social events combined! More than half of the human race is under the age of 30. This is in part because the younger generation aren afraid of technology and in part because they haven spent years getting used to anything else. So if you want a sense of where the world media habits are headed, it makes sense to watch what kids are doing. As time goes on, social media is my home on the internet. It where I find out about new movies, television and other products. It is my diary. Looking back on my wall, $900 neverfull louis vuitton tote bags I have history that is far richer than any diary or journal. Recognize that we are, and have been, social creatures in our lives long before the arrival of digital technology. So we must avoid thinking of social media as a "thing" or a frightening new phenomenon it's really just an extension of who we are. Technology and I don get along. In fact we hate each other. I young, I use social media, hell I going into an industry consumed by it, but it scares the shit out of me. It feels to me like people these days don really have an option when it comes to social media and technology. It embrace it or get left behind. Which is fair enough in some respects as it is the easy way to do things. But I thought in this developing age people should be able to be free to consume whatever they are interested in, and for me, and many people I know, that very far away from technology. To have Facebook or Twitter for breakfast, lunch and dinner seems a little sad if you ask me. And I realize people have argued this time and time again and the debate about the rise of social media will always go the way of technology, but why can there still be a class or two at school and university where we don have to use computers? Why can history be learned from an actual historical book? Soon the history of history will change because there will be nothing physically historical left. Why can we learn to write in beautiful scripture at school anymore? The world is giving up beauty for simplicity. Technology is not an extension of who I am. I leave the couch to get my kicks thank you. I can't help but feel sorry for the child called 'Like'. That's a horrible name to give to a baby! Social media might just end up being a trend but that name will last forever!!! This only further adds to my dilemma of whether social media has enlightened or ruined us. I mean, sure it allows us to keep in touch with our friends and access news and information at lightning speeds but at what cost? On an additional note, there seems to be a growing trend of using social media over actual human and physical interaction as well. For example, I went out to dinner with my partner the other day and witnessed another couple also having dinner but they were both on their mobile phones either 'tweeting' or 'facebooking'.
