Lewis School to close next year The George D.
Lewis Hub School Society developed a proposal to keep the facility open as a hub school. Hub schools are designed to make rural schools more viable by allowing eligible businesses, groups, and individuals to use available school space for projects, offices, or businesses. "It was a task that was setup for failure from the beginning," said board chair Lorne Green, who praised the work of the society. "The department didn't give a lot of thought when they put (the hub school guidelines) together and now we hear they may actually review that again." The proposal failed to satisfy the financial criterion to: "clearly demonstrate how it will result in no increase in capital or operating costs for the school board or the province." The society has not succeeded in obtaining firm funding commitments from potential tenants, donors or government agencies. The operating model for the hub school has not yet been defined. The proposal reviewed has no implementation plan. Financial and non financial risk analysis and plans to mitigate these risks are absent from the proposal. Yvonne Kennedy, the school board member who represents the Louisbourg school, said the guidelines were set louis vuitton purses pictures and prices so high louis vuitton briefcase knockoff by the province for hub school funding that communities would need millions of dollars at their disposal. "There are only so many cookies you can bake, so many fundraisers you can have to save a rural school." Brett Hanham, spokesman for the George D. Lewis Hub School Society, said the group was shocked and surprised by the decision because they didn't know a final date was set for the vote. He said they were meeting today to discuss their plans moving forward. Also at the meeting, the board decided to rescind its decision to change the name of Greenfield Elementary in New Waterford. In the spring, the board voted to change the name of Greenfield to New Waterford Elementary, effective Aug. 1, to reflect the coming together of three schools following the closure of St. Agnes Elementary and Mount Carmel Elementary in June. "Since that time, some information has come forth and we felt that the process was not done fairly louis vuitton purses material or with the complete public knowledge," said school board member John Berk. "In order louis vuitton alma gm epi to rectify that, we have to take back what we say sometimes and that's what we're here for (Monday).".
